Multiple USB Types

As if there isn't enough of a problem in the tech-world of competing standards, USB has to be added to the list now. Enter the USB Implementation Forum, who decided at the end of last year to re-do the USB naming scheme. The difference will be that USB 1.1 will be dubbed USB 2.0 Full-Speed and USB 2.0 will now be referred to as USB 2.0 High-Speed. Now tell me, was it necessary to change the names?
